A hidden gem...

The place was a revelation. It is located in a small village off Colombo-Kandy road and is definitely the place to be if you are looking for peace, calm and a connection with nature. The manager Deepal was an excellent host and met our every demand with a smile. His staff was equally helpful and accommodating. The food and the rooms were excellent. Very comfortable and clean.

The down side was that the Wifi was a bit slow and not very strong. No phones in the room but the manager will give you his mobile number.

Pleasant stay and friendly staff

Athulya Villas is a quaint little walauwa in Kadugannawa (about 45 mins from Kandy). It's got a lovely swimming pool, and while the rooms are a bit small they've got jacuzzis to make up for it (besides, you don't spend too much time in the room. It's nicer to sit outside and soak up your surroundings - lots of great flora and birdlife).

The staff was very attentive and polite. Particularly, the manager who would go out of his way to make our stay all the more comfortable. The food is great too. There's not much to choose from, it's mostly local fare but cooked well and tastes delicious.

As mentioned by the other reviewers locating the Athulya Villas is a bit difficult to find, but to us (an adventurous duo) we enjoyed trying to locate it (and they are on Google Maps so that makes it pretty easy).

I think the manager, an elderly Sri Lankan gentleman who previously worked at the Tourist Board, should get a special mention. He was very courteous, attentive and overall lovely to chat with.

Perfect stay!

We had a lovely stay here. The property is about 45 mins from the Kandy train station, but it's worth the drive. The property is lush, green and stunning. Surrounded by tea and spices growing everywhere. Fantastic pool! Staff are all very friendly and attentive. Mr Deepal was very helpful and friendly. The rooms are gorgeous.... very comfy bed and a jacuzzi. It's a beautiful little retreat. Highly recommended!

Amazing hotel. All associates were OUTSTANDING!!

Very friendly and helpful staff, convenient location, awesomely comfortable beds, and the room was roomy and clean. A big thanks to the folks at the Athulya Villas, specially The Manager Mr. Deepal. It was an enjoyable stay – Thank you so much!

Peace, birds, temples and team work.

After 4 days here we had a really good feel for the place and staff, and so far this has been our best experience in SL. There's a real comradie here between all the employees and that gives it a great vibe. It's handy to the the Embekka, Lankatilake and Gadaladeniya temples which are all well worth visiting and 45mintues from the centre of Kandy. There are great birds, picturesque walks through the tea and rice fields and the staff are locals, thus very knowledgeable about the area, its wildlife and flora. Oh and the food is excellent!

Fabulous place for nature culture experience

Recently under new management this place was a reprieve from the bustle of Kandy. Gorgeous food, terrific local knowledge by the guide Thilan and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Beautiful surroundings and well worth the 40 minute drive from Kandy. We also enjoyed a puja with a kindly nun by the nearby lake. Highly recommended!

Amazing place!

We stayed in Athulya Villas 2 nights in March and we had a fabulous time there. As stated in previous reviews the place isn't in Kandy itself but it's really worth the trip as the villas are in a gorgeous place that is very relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. The staff was devoted to us and the manager Deepar was very helpful and attentive to every detail. The food was cooked on demand and was absolutely delicious. We were given the Governor's suite since we stayed with our 2 daughters and had plenty of space. We strongly recommend this place!
